Change my Onkyo 805 for one of these?

I'm looking to change my Onkyo 805 for a 3D receiver.

I know very little about specs etc, but will be reading as much as I can.

Would any of these three be a good replacement, or would I be better keeping my Onkyo and using analogue for sound with video direct to the 3D tv.

If 3D is the only reason you're thinking of an upgrade, then I'd say the most cost-effective route is the one you suggest: video straight to TV, and four pairs of analogue interconnects from player to receiver for sound.

Thanks Andrew. 3D is the primary reason, but also I'm wondering if my Onkyo, which is around 6 years old now, is "old tech" and if the newer recievers might be an overall upgrade even though they are cheaper than I paid for the Onkyo.

If your looking at the Apex & 7006BR, you will be selling them short by going with the AVRs you have listed (trust me I used own the Apex and the more power you give them, the better). Also they would seem underpowered compared to the 805, I would suggest you look at the new Onkyo replacement like for like, pioneer LX55 or Marantz SR7005 / Denon equivilant if your budget allows.

as a fellow 805 owner this topic has some interest.

re your last comment, there is nothing else (new) to decode all they seem to offer is more speaker options to use with the on-board software. I am more than happy with a 7.1 for when I find them and 5.1 for the rest. (dont use the processing).

My only concern is this rumour that at some time there will not be any BD players with analogue outs.... something to do with the standard that has been adpopted.

If I was going to 3D the amp would not get changed.

I don't think they would: if the Onkyo's still working well, I'd stick with it

What do you guys think of the Denon 2312?

I would be giving away 25w per channel (8 Ohm MA Apex) on my Onkyo if I read the specs of both correctly. Would that be a biggy?

It's a newer amp, 3D, HDMi 1.4a.

I can't find any reviews on this modle. Anybody own the 2312?

Would anyone care to recommend a like-for-like replacement or thereabouts for the 805? Would the Denon 2312 I mentioned above be suitable? What about the Onkyo 609 that is so well reviewed on this site? It will be powering 8 ohm speakers. Thanks.

Mainly to have 3D passthrough, using a single HDMI. Otherwise it's HDMI to the TV and a set of analogue cables to the amp. If my amp is a better decoder than the player, I will lose that.

I'm hoping somebody who knows a bit about amp specs could have a look for me and advise if the Denon 2312 would be a good replacement, or if the Onkyo wins. I've been offered a good price for the Denon, but if the Onkyo beats it, I won't be changing.

Denon 2312 weight: 11kg

Onkyo 805 weight: 23kg

If the Onkyo has one gift, it's brute force. Manufacturers play fast and loose with power specifications, but the weight can be a good indicator of size of transformers etc. The Denon won't match it.

You can buy a 3d bluray with dual HDMI for under £200, much cheaper solution than replacing an amp. This will give you all the mod cons and a hulking great amp.

BDPs with separate HDMI outputs going direct to tv for 3d picture & the other routed to an HD audio equipped AVR are emerging slowly.Take the panasonic bd310 for instance or the slightly bigger budgeted pioneer bdp lx55. If you still have a half decent AVR with HD decoding,this,at the moment is the cheapest option.But i must say i think a lot of yamahas latest aventage AVRs beginning with the A-810 up to the A-2010. These would be within a sane budget.

Just buy a onkyo 3008 which almost 2 year old and look for best price.you have 3d and 140 watts that will take care all needs.
