Its not really a typical post for this forum, but I wondered if anyone could be of any help. A freind of mine has asked me to recommened some speakers to plug into his laptop. With a budget of £40 he realises it won't be hi-fi and he won't be persuaded to splurge on something better/more expensive. I don't really know anything about speakers in this price range, and I couldnt find anything in any whathifi additions I own (though there do appear to be some fine speakers for around £100). He isnt really a fidelity fiend, but any decent recommendations would be much apprechiated. Since they will be running out of a laptop lineout, they will need to be active speakers.

Any ideas would be very helpful.

At that sort of price break (assuming he won't look at 2nd hand stuff) I would stick with the likes of Creative, maybe one of their 2.1 systems.

As you say, it ain't hifi, but should give a reasonable sound...
