Hi everyone, iam thinking of buying a Audiolab 8200cdp to go with the yamaha. Would you consider this a good match for the yamaha or abit of a overkill, hopefully in the future i will buy 8200amp if needed.

At the moment my Denon 1930 is doing cd duties, speakers BR2s on soundstyle stands.

Thank you.

The obvious match would be Yamaha's own CD-S300 or CD-S700. The 8200CD isn't necessarily "overkill" for the A-S500 as it is a superb amplifier. It is from a level up on price and it may be argued the A-S500 isn't at the level where it will get everything from the source (as an A-S1000 or Audiolab 8200A would as you suggested), but it gives you somewhere to upgrade from in future. In other words, we've never been against choosing a better source component for a current system (within reason) as it's money saved on the source if you upgrade the other components around it in future.

Sonically however, the 8200CD would be a fine match for the amp. We've listened to both quite a bit and although the amp is a little outmatched by the source, it's still a fantastic combo. Hope my 5 cents on this helps

Thanks Rik and audio affair, i am glad you think this will be ok as i think iwill end up with the audiolab pairing in the future.

Could you please advise what is the advantage in getting the cdq over the cd, i know the cdq has a pre-amp stage but will it be a benefit when used with a integrated amp.

Thank you.

Indeed the big benefit with the CDQ is the fully balanaced pre amplifier which adds 3 additional RCA pair inputs and is quite special. Having said that, the 8200CD is already more than a suitable match for the Yamaha A-S500 and as you don't know where you might go on upgrading the amp in fuutre (or do you?) you might be better going for the 8200CD now - leaving you the option of the Audiolab 8200Q dedicated pre amplifier and one of the power amps later on

Hi nick46

Your welcome.

The 8000CDQ will really come into its own with when used a power amp(s). Fwiw, i used the A-S500 alot with the superb Chord Electronics QBD76 DAC and the A-S500 has coped admirably. Therefore the A-S500 will also handle the 8000CD.

All the best
