CD track programming

I'm considering getting a mid-priced hi-fi system and was looking at the Cambridge Audio Sonata series and Arcam Solo Mini. What surprised me though is that CD players in both of these systems don't allow for track programming. I not always listen to all the songs on an album and find this function very useful, any idea why it is being dropped?! I mean I could do it on my 20 y.o. CD player so how difficult can it be?

Seriously though, I'm disappointed, nowadays it seems like you've got to go for the Solo Neo to get something like this... [sigh]

Big +1 for the "Skip" button.

As good an idea as track programming might be, by the time you've fiddled about selecting what you want you could have played the whole album.
