Hi! I'd like a bit of advice from forum members, please. My previous system was a Musical Fidelity X-Ray CD player, an Audio Innovations amplifier and a pair of Ruark Icon speakers on some quality stands. The overall sound was extremely detailed, with great imagery, if just a little bright.
The amp had several repairs over the years and finally gave up on me so I decided to sell it along with the X-Ray. I’ve kept the excellent Ruark Icons and sometime this year I’m looking at £1000, give or take £100, for a new CD player and amp combo.
My last albums I bought were Fleet Foxes, Of Monsters and Men, Bat for Lashes, Lana Del Rey. I prefer my musical presentation detailed with warmth and finesse without smothering everything with thunderous bass. The system is to be used for serious listening in a small lounge with a physical collection. Not interested in streaming as my digital files will stay where the PC is for casual listening, MP3 players, etc. Having said that, I want to be fairly forward thinking, which is why I’m taken with the Audiolab 8200CD.
So far my audition shortlist is:
1. Audiolab 8200CD with Rotel RA-10
2. Rega Apollo R with Rega Brio R
3. Audiolab 8200CD with Rega Brio R
Hopefully these should fall within budget with a bit of polite haggling at time of purchase.
Any advice on what other combo’s I should consider would be very much appreciated!
