Cassette tapes

I replaced my defunct Technics with a Nak (not as fine as @nopiano 's example - a mere 482Z) just to play my old stuff, and now some cassettes inherited from my sister.

It's true what they say - try Nak and you'll never go back. Or I think that's what they say my hearing isn't what it was...

But I wouldn't recommend anybody start out on this road! I was in a second hand record store in the States, browsing as you do, when I heard hipster #1 say to hipster #2 in an excited voice 'hey they've got cassettes'. Shudder. They really do wear more quickly than any other medium.

Mind you I buy the odd vinyl from said type of store, which I suppose is also frowned upon by many.

In the latter days of Cassettes I remember TDK had a line of tapes called 'cd-ing' - I assume the idea was that you could record cd's on to tape for playback in the car - at least that's what I did at that time. Seems crazy now but during that brief overlap of the two formats before we had cd players in cars it made perfect sense.

I would realy like to preserve my tape collection most of them still play well some sound better than others depending on the source recording at the time .
The only simple way i can see is a Tascam CD recorder but not cheap .

If you want to digitise you could try an RCA to 3 mill headphone jack adapter, plug tape deck 'out' into a PC and capture with Audacity. I've made decent takes off vinyl that way to play on my phone.

Then if you want them on CD write to a ten quid usb cd drive, obvs.

Thanks for that . I have Audacity i will give that a go i use it to convert my Vinyl to play in the car 👍

Save in FLAC format to save space and maintain the original quality. (You can also add the relevant Metadata)
Don't save in a lossy format, as once the information is gone, you cannot get it back.

Im not familiar with FlAC format .
