Can you reliably tell the difference compressed and uncompressed WAV?

if you can do the test, explain your setup and what results you got.

I got 2/6 which means I picked the WAV twice, 3 times I picked the 320 file and once the 128.

Listening via AirPlay from my iPhone to HiFi, would AirPlay be hindering this?

I replaced the weak part of the system (deaf buggar on the sofa) with a very expensive, top of the range model. My wife got all 6 WAV files. I won't hear the last of this!

I'm going to connect the laptop to the amp with HDMI and redo the test, hopefully I do better this time. I'm not fussed if I can't pick out the WAV so long as I don't pick the 128.

I somehow got all 6 WAVs.

My Phantoms are more the 200km away and I did not even use my headphones (Panasonic RP-HTX7), just my laptop's speakers (they are supposed to be some sort of Dynaudio stuff...).

I have two choices with my wife. I can let her win straight away, or I canargue for 30 minutes and then she wins anyway. So to save time, I just give in straight away.

I had a go last night using my iPhone and a pair of 80ohm DT770's, so not a great match up by any means.

I picked the wav 5 times, the only one I couldn't distinguish between was the Jay-Z track and I just guessed...and got it wrong.

Goes to show that you can listen to Hip-Hop shite on anything, probably why Beats are so popular.
