Hi

I currently have a Sky HD Box in the lounge with magic eyes sending the picture to other rooms in the house. The picture though doesn't come through in HD.
Is there a way of getting the HD picture onto the other TVs without having to get separate extra HD boxes or will it only ever be SD??

You can run the HDMI output from the sky box into a splitter, and then use that to feed other TVs no problems.

The only downsides are running the HDMI cables, or the expense of a wireless HDMI sender.

I currently have my Sky box sending four HD feeds around the house. Works a treat.

By using splitters or the cat 6 cables, does it weaken the picture to the main tv in the lounge?

Thanks for the advice. Looks like the box is about £40 then, where do you get the cable from? Anything else required?

Your phrase "though i would use cat6 cable + HDMI over cat5/6 baluns instead of HDMI cables" is a bit over my head but i would like to be able to do it all with not much hassle!!.

Get the cables from Maplin or somewhere like that, it'll be much cheaper, you can either get them made up in advance or buy a reel of cable (depends how much you need), a crimping tool and make them up yourself.

Looking at the prices , would i be better off just getting an HDMI splitter and a decent 30m HDMI cable and then run that round the house? I assume there is no issue with the actual cable being outside??

HDMI signals aren't really meant to be carried over those sort of distances, so if you do go for a 30m HDMI cable i would check it works ok before going to the trouble of fitting it properly. Also they're not designed for outdoor use (obv.) so you may find the PVC sheathing deteriorates quite quickly, so would recommend running it in conduit, plus you're going to need to drill some big holes in your walls to get get the HDMI plugs through.

Personally i would use the HDMI over cat5/6 baluns and cat6 cabling, they're capable of carrying HDMI signal over greater distances with no issues, you can get cat 5/6 for outdoor use, it'll be easier to run and you wont have to drill such large holes in your walls

So basically you buy the transmitter and receiver, connect one with HDMI cable to the sky HD box and the other via HDMI to the kitchen TV and then run 2 cables between each? What is the difference between Cat 5 and 6 and is their any diff in price? Are the 2 runs of cable exactly the same?? Thanks again.

Cat 6 has a higher data rate capability, it'll be slightly more expensive but shouldn't be ruinous, not compared to a 30m hdmi cable anyway.

and will someone like Maplin sell the cables with the Ethernet ends already on there??

i've checked and they do! however i realise that by putting them on yourself, you can make a smaller hole in the wall and just pass the wire through. I just hope i can put the ends on myself as never done anything like it before. is it easy enough?

and another question! if the Sky HD box only has one HDMI port on the back, how do get the hdmi signal onto the exisitng tv in the lounge as well as the one in the other room with the cat 5/6 cable going to it?
