Can DSD files be played via Digital Coax ?

Late response to my original post, apologies. I seem to get no alerts as to when I get replies on here.

Anyway, as mentioned, it is clear that the only way to get DSD bitstream out of the Oppo player is via hdmi. So I purchased a hdmi audio extractor that has an I2S output. So went oppo hdmi out to audio extractor hdmi in, then used another hdmi cable for audio extractor I2S out to SMSL Do400 dac I2S in.
I checked with the audio extractor supplier what the I2S pin type is and then set the dac up to reflect that. Now have DSD bitstream showing on the dac display.
Probably overkill for a dead format, but was interesting and when I do pick up SACDs, I’d like for them to play at the highest quality.
