Hello

I'm hoping someone will be able to help me out here.

Can a computer virus affect Internet ready TVs? Also, will the conenction become slower as time goes by and the memory fills with cookies, cache etc?

Any ideas?

Thanks!

I dont think it would be affected by a virus as internet tv's only have access to certain content which is safe to use as the tv has a direct link to that. If it was full internet on a television set then maybe there is a chance to catch a virus as you can surf towards non safe websites.

The connection would not go slower as time goes by as internet tv's are not full internet web access. On a PC / Laptop there is allot of things going on, the computer is storing websites you have visited, cookies, cache, history etc where as an internet tv, it only accesses what it is programmed to offer, eg BBC iplayer, YouTube etc, these are already programmed in, so your not really visiting sites or storing any data etc. Its very safe.

Good points and I'm sure you're correct with Apps based access.

But what about with Fully enabled Internet Access TVs? More TVs are now offering this feature but I never see any mention of virus protection software being offered.

I'm fairly certain that any browser software would be stored in the tv's firmware making any attempts to alter it difficult and not worth the effort of any would be hacker.
