Just looking at the pictures provided for What Hi Fi's review of the aforementioned Blu ray player. I can see Darbee processing inscribed on the front of the unit.

I think I can smell Oppo.

Haven't we been here before with these suggestions regarding other Cambridge products?

Just because two products use the same technology from a third party supplier (DarbeeVision) doesn't mean anything fishy is going on, just as the fact many players are built around the same disc-playing package doesn't signify anything more than that both brands buy 'kits' from the same company, such as MediaTek.

Check this review for example where they say this:

"Nobody taking a glance at the back plate or a peek inside will need to be told that this deck is built in the same factory which manufactures for Oppo, one of the biggest specialists for multi-format players. Any Internet search eventually identifies the actual manufacturing plant as Winbase."

Of course it doesn't mean that they're the same players. Depends on what components they have specified.

These Chinese OEMs make all kinds of products for all kinds of manufacturers.

Or are we now going to insinuate that Sonys are the same as iPhones, just because Foxconn manufactures for both of them?

There's no getting away from the fact that the player has been released at a very wrong time. Who will want to spend £900 when 4K blu ray player is round the corner? I'm sure this will fall in price by 50% by Christmas.

You seem to have missed my last paragraph. :)

The manufacturing facility is owned by Oppo, that's the difference.
