I have read a significant amount of material extolling the virtues of the Sonos system, without a hint of criticism about the quality of its sound.

How does the quality of the Sonos sound, compared with, for example, the Cambridge Audio Stream Magic 6?

Sonos are market leaders in plug n play. You might call it audio for Apple users, as it looks neat too. But the Magic 6 is c £700, way more than a Sonos streamer. It's like asking the difference between your speakers and some budget bookshelf jobbies. With your system I'd be starting at the £500 level (like the n50 already mentioned) and working up from there. Naim have the widest range of hifi quality streaming devices at the moment.
