I am looking to upgrade from a Denon Mini System to a separates Hi Fi System. I am going to initially be using a Cambridge Audio DVD 99 (already owned), planning to upgrade using a DAC at some point in the future if this would give a marked improvement. My thoughts have been a Cambridge 650A and Kef1Q5se speakers. I have a small flat, hence wanting the smaller floorstanders - I also like the appearance of these speakers which is one factor for consideration! 5* what hi fi review also helped to sway it - same reasons for the amp - similar appearance to my dvd player, and a 5* review. What I haven't heard is how these speakers partner the amp. Can any with this setup comment, or can anyone suggest other suitable combinations?

I would also be interested in any comment on that combination. If I may I would extend the question to cambridge 650A and any matching KEF speaker like IQ30 or IQ 50-70.

thanks

Hi

I'm not a fan of Cambridge, although there are a number of admirers. This is just a personal view.

If you're going the Richer Sounds route, the Nad is a far better all-rounder. I've not heard the most recent models, although I did audition the 352. That was an amp that had most sonic attributes: big, ballsy, detailed sound - that certainly appealled to me.

Regards the Kefs, I auditioned the IQ5 (not SE) and they are very good, although all-round ability didn't touch the RS6's. Both the Kef and Nad would be a great match.

Hope it helps.....
