Hello

a friend of mine has lent me their projector for the world cup

i want to use it outside and that means running a 15/20 m hdmi cable from the sky box to the projector outside.

The projector only has a vga connection so I need to convert the hdmi cable to vga.

I can't see many female hdmi to male vga connectors available. The bulk of the ones I can see are male hdmi to female vga

Am I looking for the right thing? Or do I need something else?

If it’s the blue (Usually) VGA input then this is analogue, whereas HDMI is digital, so you will need a converter box to change from Digital to Analogue. (You cannot just use a socket converter)

If it is a White (Usually) DVI socket then all you need is a DVI to HDMI adaptor as it is digital.

HDMI cables are available at 20m but there is no guarantee that you will get results as it is outside the HDMI specifications, (Although a lot of users do use them successfully indoors, but your probably talking at least £25 for a quality one to do the job) therefore you would probably be better to get 2 x 10m runs, and fit a powered repeater to join the 2 together.

The alternative is a wireless sender/receiver, although these are also not guaranteed to work over that distance except with nothing in-between. (It also works out expensive)

What is the projector you have, or can you provide the exact details on its input capabilities.

Hope this helps

Bill

Thanks for your reply

It's a blue connection on the back of the projector.

I'm planing on buying one of these

And 20m of hdmi cable.

Should that work?

Or, should I buy 20m of vga cable and buy one of these?

I woiuld prefer to buy 20m of hdmi cable if possible as I plan to buy a projector further down the line and will be buying one to work with hd.

Thanks

Alan
