I am looking for a cabinet to store my hifi separates, and on which to put a 55 inch TV. I want this to be a closed cabinet but still want to be able to operate it with the doors closed - I am not sure about the IR sending unit option to get around the problem of having a cabinet with solid/opaque doors, and would appreciate anyone's suggestions on cabinets with glass or fabric (?) doors.

I've got an Ikea cabinet with glass doors which works very well but I'm not sure that they make it any more. You have to have the door open to load CDs of course!

One issue you need to be careful about is heat! If you are going to operate kit with the doors shut you need to ensure that there is adequate ventilation at the back.

Personally I would just use an IR repeater, rather than limit the choice of cabinet.

All my A/V kit is in an understairs cupboard and is controlled by an IR repeater (blue delta hideaway, though i think they've gone bust now) and works perfectly well.
