CA Stream Magic vs Logitech squeeze box??

Looked at the CA first when I realised I wanted a streamer but it didn't have gapless playback. Heard really good things about the SB touch and was kind of settled on that, but know that the CA has gapless would this be a better option all things considered?

Taking WHFI prices 259 vs 699 both 5 star products.

Got a NAS. The difference will make quite a large and good NAS.

i am biased as I have a few SB products and no longer have any Cambridge ones.

The UI can be a make or break and the SB products have some very good apps out there if you are that way inclind.

I can also turn my iProducts into SB devices for mobile use or as a seperate stand alone player.

No havent got a NAS. Pretty set on the synology ds212 though.

Yes the price difference is big but not too botherd about that if one is worth the difference. Also kind og hoping Logitech will bring out something new soon so im inclined to wait a bit.

Now that CA have fixed gapless, then there isn't much to choose between them in turns of functionality. The Touch has colour album art and a touch display, but most people use the iPhone / Android apps anyway.

I haven't heard the CA, but it gets gushing reviews. I have a couple of Touches, and they sound very good, both the analogue outputs and digital. I suppose it comes down to the price. If you wait for a special on Amazon, you can pick up the Touch for £135. You can buy a lot of music for the price difference to the CA box.

I haven't heard about a Touch replacement, though Logitech are always tight lipped about product development, so who knows?

Depends on the features you value. Squeezebox will open the way to multi-zone and synced players, and has the Spotify applet. The CA has DAC inputs for other digtial sources and balanced outputs is your amp supports this.

It's a shame the SBT never seems to get put into the WHF music streamer group tests that they've had over the previous months. I bet it would do very well against some that are 3 times it's price. I'm biased but I am amazed on how good it is and sounds.

How is that relevant? Musical Fidelity won best DAC this month and they don't advertise.

So Xanderzdad, if you were to guess why WHF hardly aknowledge that the SBT exists (arguably one of the most popular streamers), what do think the reason might be?

Now that is a good question and one I can't answer.

I think my SBT is amazing and probably the best value musical kit I've ever bought and I personally think the SBT would easily stand up to much pricier streamers.

I auditioned a number of streamers including SBT, NP30, Pioneer N50 and the stream magic 6.

For a one box solution I preferred the presentation of the stream magic 6 which stands head and shoulders above the others.

I also auditioned the NP30 and SBT with a dacmagic. The NP30/dacmagic combo stood out as the winner to my ears but the SBT had the edge between the 2 when not using the external dac only the analogue outputs.

An enforced career change meant that I no longer had funding (read as permission :boohoo: ) to purchase the stream magic. Luckily an amazon deal on a SBT for £140 allowed purchase of the logitech. The excellent user interface and remote control app more than make up for slight losses in stereo imaging and depth of sound stage.

"If you have the majority of your music collection stored on your computer, and are looking for a way to stream music throughout your house, then until recently Sonos or AirPlay were the obvious, mainstream choices.

But if you had any high-resolution content, you were out of luck. New UK-based company Simple Audio, however, could be your knight in shining armour, with its Roomplayer I and Roomplayer II multi-room set-up which can handle high-resolution 24-bit/96kHz audio."

I would argue that the SBT was the obvious mainstream choice, that also has been able to handle HiRes since launch. Seems strange gap not to mention arguably the most popular streamer in the market.

I hadn't seen that review and agree it is an odd omission.

I agree, the SBT is the best value pice of musical kit I have ever bought too. Running off my Netgear Duo NAS it's fantastic! I guess adding a decent Dac later would make it truly superb?

It's the only explanation really, but it's a pretty glaring error that I wouldn't expect even a single member of the WHF review team to make, let alone the several who as I understand it would be involved in generating a review. Obviously I know you are not associated with WHF and it is not for you to answer these questions.

For WHF, perhaps this is the sort of thing that ought to be amended on the online review?

delineates the Logitech Squeezebox component that can be connected to the rear of the Magic 6 unit. And I'm confused why..... and for what legitimate purpose this connection would serve.

The Stream Magic 6 has a digital input, so could connect a Squeezebox to obtain the services the Stream Magic 6 doesn't support such as Spotify, multi-zone, Apple Lossless playback etc.
