Just noticed that a CA 740A can be picked up tomorrow for £300! Is this a wise buy or would it be worth waiting till after xmas and getting the CA 840 V2 for £700???

just noticed that you are the owner of the CA650Bd and wondered what you thought of it, especially as an all-rounder with Bluray and Music Cd's ?? Very keen to get it to partner my CA 640R av amp and wondered what you think if it as you're obviously a Cambridge man !!!

I got my 740A and C for £500 all in over a year ago so although it seems cheap it's not that cheap. I think the 740 is being discontinued so I would think a new model will be available soon. I would wait a bit and see if there are any further reductions. I think for the price there are now also some amps that would be as good if not better as the 740 has been around a while now.
Saying all that I think its a good amp but I know other don't rate it as highly as some of CAs other amps.
I don't have any direct experience of the 840 but I have heard good things about it. Again tho £700 isn't that cheap for it I don't think.

I'd rather have a 650a - looks better and matches your Blu Ray player

If you check out the richer sounds VIP newsletter the 840A v2 is going for £599.

For what u pay for it I honestly don't have a one bad thing to say about it. It's a joy to listen to, despite it being ampified through my sony reciever. Can't fault it with movies either and I believe these guys just gave it a best buy.

It does sound much better when it's running through the Dacmagic, much clearer and more detailed sound, but that's just my opinion!

thanks atkins, appreciate that and am really keen on it...the stereo amp section of the 640 is very good in my opinion and would do justice to the Cd replay abilities of the 650BD imo. Just looking forward to it dropping in price a bit...

My local richer sounds has the 650a on demo at the min so i'm gunna *** in and have a listen. They also have both the 740a £300 and 840a v2 £600 in as ex demo models, only problem being they're both silver as apposed to the black!!

With regareds to the 650a, I don't doubt for one minute that it's gunna sound better than the sony reciever i'm currently using but would an extra £250 for the 840a v2 be a much wiser choice.
