Buying Picture processing - Why Not?

Just a thought, I have one of the Philips 7404 range of TV's with the Natural Motion HD processing with 100HZ.

It accepts firmware updates via USB.

The 9664 range has the pixel precise HD engine which I believe is far superior, with 200HZ.

Why don't manufacturers offer picture processing upgrades (at a cost) to people who have lower models.

Is it just that the response time of the panel etc. can't cope or is it to ensure people buy higher priced Models and/or upgrade to the newest tech. in the future.

What do you think / know?

I thought that maybe the case, but wouldn't it be interesting to know for sure?

Sorry, when I say 'I think', I actually meant that it would for sure require a different display panel, driver electronics and so on. Unless some manufacturers are using more advanced panels and processors than would be required in their sets, then hobbling them in software, which would make no economic sense whatsoever.

its strange that the PS3 did updates on the firmware ages ago to improve the DVD upscaler etc

That uses a processor of some sort, though i suppose if you could update/upgrade you TV from an update, no one would buy anything newer

Perfect Pixel of 9964 is not FAR superior of Pixel Precise on 7404. Actually it is only 2 times better, something which you could barely see by your own eye. And I personally did not detect any differences between them on SD material.
