I have to move my music room which is less than ideal right now at 12.5 X10.5 with nothing in it but my chair. Iam building a room in the basement but am restricted to wall to wall measurements of 17.5 feet wide and 12.4 feet deep and 8.5 ceilings. Im going to be placing my speakers on the long wall tucking my equipment behind my speakers which wont be a problem for single racks and my Proac's are side ported. Wont be tight against any speaker just behind and to the side.

To my question, what recommendations would you advise things to do or not to do, insulate the ceilings etc. Some how vault the ceiling just slightly type of drywall. Does anyone think this is going to big enough for my set up. Parasound Pre-Power and Proac D28's. I figure two feet out from back wall and my chair 1.5 feet away leaves me a honest 8.5 feet away. I was thinking the other way but 12 feet now I would only have the speakers spread 6 feet apart inside to inside speaker keeping them two feet away from the side walls.

i think you're right to place them along the long wall, they would've been pretty close to the side walls. i wouldn't bother doing anything fancy with the dimensions, i reckon you'd be just fine with a carpet/large rug, and some soft furnishings to absorb a bit of sound. maybe some acoustic panels on the wall behind you. a loud clap in the centre of the room can give an idea of how reflective the room is, if it echos maybe some panels could be the icing on the cake, so to speak.

i'm jealous, i wish i had a dedicated listening room.

I hope this upload work I tried on nights but that was 4 days ago. This is my room now and doesn't leave my much room but errr wife is making me move it to the basement and off of the main level so she can watch TV which i think is fair. I had to turn my gain settings down on my power amp for this room due to the sensitivity. For some odd reason when i did this it seems that the mid band is coming through alot more and I hearing more nuances that previous but gave up that furious attack and snap so its a trade off for now. I did your clap test, bad bad bad my ears are still ringing.
