Hi guys

Just taken the plunge and invested in the above NAS 1TB. Didn't have much money so went with one that had some good reviews on Amazon. Anyone here got experience with this and any tips on setting it up. I'm going to use the Xbox 360 to stream music and video until I can muster the cash for a Sonos or Squeezebox. I use MediaMonkey and iTunes on Vista laptops. Hope I've made a good choice.

Cheers in advance.

Hi I have the 640gb version and I find it great. Can't help you with your streaming xbox question but when you get your Sonos or squeezebox have a look at
www.ripcaster.co.uk they have some set up guides online.

I do believe the sonos is easier to set up than the squeezebox. Its something to do with the squeezbox software, but I've no exp' of this. Others may be able to help more on this.

I have the 1TB version and I think its great. I find that with the xbox it's best to setup playlists because it can take ages to show what music you have on the disk.

Any owners of Buffalo Livestation out there? I have read it has a power save function but this can be a little hit and miss in operation. Any opinions on that? Trying to do my bit for the world.

Not tried it. Leave mine running 24/7 as the Sonos is unable to power it up from standby.

I was also advised to leave it this way when I bought it as the constant starting and stopping shortens its life. I don't know how accurate this is though.

Had it about a week now and so far am happy with it. It's a bit slow if you're moving large numbers of choons into iTunes but apart from that it's cool. The auto power thingy only works with a pc/mac that has buffalo nas navigator software installed on it so an xbox, sonos etc wouldn't be able to start it so I just turn it on when necessary. I don't know if that will shorten it's life or not. It would be better if it switched on on demand. Seems to stream video and music to the xbox without any problems. Pukka!!

The Buffalo Drivestation 2 share is also very easy to setup and mine worked fine till I realised, hold on, I bought a 1tb and there is only 500gb here. On checking the box it came in it is marked both 1tb and 500gb. Bought it through Amazon from a company called Avides. Their customer service is so slow

and I have gone to dispute to claim the money back off Amazon. Avides seemed remarkably reluctant to send me another correct one. Meanwhile I have spent the money on something else and will stick to a good old WD Mybook for now. Will venture back into the world of NAS, eventually.
