Jesus Christ, over analyse much? It means nothing of the sort, it means, very simply, that I don't understand how something that is basically two parallel lines with a curve on top can be regarded as "hideous". Hideous is a strong word, I could understand plain (they don't have any embellishment to speak of), I could probably see where "boring" would be coming from but hideous is excessive, especially without any sort of expansion on why.

It's like when people use the word "hate" when they mean "mildly dislike", just a bit over the top isn't it?

Er, no, it's not over the top or excessive, I find them hideous. It's still really weird that you can't 'understand' someone has a different view from you, even a very different one. Subjective opinions on the appearance of speakers is not something that can be easily rationalised in the way you are attempting to.

Well then perhaps you should help a poor fool like me out and try explaining WHY you find them hideous because I can't see it. I don't want to understand the fact that you hold a different opinion, I can see that plainly enough but I would like to understand the reasons for that opinion, ie what it is you find so hideous about them but perhaps you can't articulate that, which would be interesting in itself but not very helpful. I'm struggling to believe that you're not capable of that though.

It's a bit pointless tho isn't it? If I set out the things that mean that I find them hideous it will be mere descriptions of aspects of their appearance, which you're well aware of in any event. And that won't help you get any closer to empathy for my opinion, because you're looking at the same thing and can't understand an opinion so different from yours.

Fwiw, I think because it isn't a rational process, I am struggling to say x + y + z feature = hideous. For some reason, in the context of being asked to rationalise subjective appearance I am reminded of the line from A Night At the Opera, 'everything about you reminds me of you. Except you.'

Things that come into my head tho (and I'm not saying it's rational): too tall, too monolithic, looks unbalanced, all the wrong curves, hate the driver and it's placement, horrible colour.

So what was it exactly you don't like about them ... ?

I'm guessing they remind you of something on Dr Who that frightened you in your childhood - well that's how they struck me anyway ;-)

I find the Blades Butt Ugly because of their colour (would look better in white, IMO) & I don't like them being narrower at their base. Stuff like this is very subjective. It's not that I don't like curves in speakers but not on the vertical axis. I do prefer horizontal tops - great for pot plants - the drivers do dry out eventually after mist spraying the leaves in my experience. Anyhow - must get back to my tub of chocolate moose.

The Blades also make me think of a large Culure knife missile.

I'm with you Ben. The Kefs are hideous.

Still at least you have given LHC someone to have an argument with instead of arguing with himself. Which I imagine he does quite a lot.

Dunno, I'm ln the KEF site, and I think there are far uglier speakers than the Blades, different they certainly are but they're no more 'hideous' than say B&W's Nautilus, or KEF's own Q series for that matter.

I think they're refreshingly different from the normal boxes. I think they're slim and elegant, the only horrid things about them are the custom colours like Racing Red and Racing Blue.

I quite like the Blades, they look good in modern looking minimalist decors.

Although most peoples living rooms are better suited to regular box shaped speakers with wooden vaneers.
