Hey guys

I currently have a Pioneer BDP51FD BluRay player which I am happy with. My question is, are the newer players any better than this one. I guess they'll be quicker to load up (not dificult) and they all have BD Live but is there likely to be a step up in picture and sound quality? The newer units look a lot smaller too.

Cheers

i would be interested in any views also. I have the BDP51FD but am maybe looking to upgrade to the Denon 2500 transport which can be got for far less than when released. Would i see much of step up in picture quality?

Hi.

I have not seen the BDP51FD, but I can comment on the Denon 2500BT.

The picture quality is stunning on this machine, obviously the sound will depend on your amp etc.

All I can say is demo one.

In terms of picture & audio quality alone, & considering the fact that you're happy with your current player, there's no real reason to upgrade.

The reasons why you would want a new player would be if you want a profile 2.0 player or a faster loading one or one with built-in wi-fi.

It may be a better idea to buy a 3D enabled blu-ray player coming this year which will have significantly improved loading times & hopefully better performance with an extra year of technical know how going into them. That would be a step up, not otherwise.

I thought that the some current bluray players will be compatible with 3D via a firmware update?? The ps3 is getting an update so it can run 3D so i presumed that other players (Sony?) would be able to do the same is that wrong then? Don't tell me i need to buy a new bluray player as well as a new TV to run 3D, if so you can count me out until the price of the tech comes down and any potential bugs are fixed.

As far as I know yes, it's only the PS3 that'll be getting the 3D upgrade, not least thanks to the sheer amount of processing power it has onboard.

And even now it's not totally clear how complete the PS3 3D upgrade will be.

From a picture/sound perspective, I don't think by very much.
