[quote user="remixes"]Hi guys/Gals whats all this version 1.0 or 1.1 with the new pana & so on?? Then I seem to remember reading about people talking about version 2.0?? Stop it my head is hurting!! lol!
My question is I have started to buy a few Bluray discs now & thought I would get a little collection before I decide what player to go for, simple so far yeah....good. So do I have to worry about when I Come to buying a player at some stage this year whether they will play or not in other words will this version business get in the way or is it just to play rubbish features I dont want to see anyway?
Next question if for some reason the player needs a firmware update how the hell do you do it? Or is it different for all players & not that simple!
WHS & V comments/current bluray owners help this man please

Profile versions are actually very simple to describe by keeping things basic.
Profile 1.0 will play the main feature of current and future releases (assuming firmware updates).
Profile 1.1 is as above, but also allows the added feature of Picture In Picture for the directors commentary.
Profile 2.0 is as 1.0 and 1.1 but allows the player to connect to the Internet for extra content.
Most will be perfectly happy with Profile 1.0, some will want the extra functionality of Profile 1.1 and very few will want to run a network cable to their player for Profile 2.0.
As Profile 1.1 players are very nearly available, I'd say that Profile 1.1 is the minimum if you can afford it. How likely are you to connect your player to the Internet and use Profile 2.0? Me? Never! I certainly haven't for HD-DVD.
If it is the same as a HD-DVD player, you may update the firmware via the use of a CD. If you can not obtain one from the manufacturer, you will need a PC to download the ISO image from their website and burn the image to a CD. The player will "play" the CD and update the firmware from it. Later players will probably download firmware from the Internet as well, but of course you'll need to run a cable to it.
That's all there is to it.
