My Cyrus CDT is shot and Im not totally sure I want to buy another one or if I should go with the bluesound Vault and store my CD's on there lossless. Anyone have experience with that unit and how the SQ would be VS my Cyrus transport which I think is really good. I would be using a coax out into Cyrus Pre2 DacQx upgraded card into Stereo 200 into Proac studio 148's. Thanks

Boil down to the quality of the dac and nothing to do with how tou store the music files.

Pc, laptop, music server, cd transport or player. The sq comes down to the dac and amp speakers and how its stored makes no difference at all.

Id consider a product like this but one without a dac as mine is already very good.

The only reason id go for ine over my laptop is so i can use the laptop while listening to music

Any suggestions? Node 2? I think they all have a dac and you can by pass it by going out digital out.

Can streaming from my iPhone in Apple lossless be as good as a Cyrus cdt with bluesound app or AirPlay. I really need help with this streaming.

The Zen has certainly been getting good reviews but for these sort of prices might you just as well get another cheap laptop? 🙂

But the only positive over a laptop is totaly silent (unless you buy sshd that will drive up the cost and also the ripper will fit into the hifi rack better and look the part.

But i agree that a laptop will do 100% just a good job

Don't get me wrong, I like the idea of rippers such as these just think they are still a little overpriced for what you are getting.

yup the innuos is totally an off the parts machine. All prices approx:

Streamcom F1C Case - 70

2td wd red - 70

Fanless j1800 motherboard with cpu - 57

2gb ram - 10

slot loading drive - 30

external psu - 30

voretxbox - free

So, 267 squid to build an indentical box yourself. Nice mark up there 🙂

I rest my case m'lud! Another example of how to rip-off the poor uninitiated hi-fi enthusiast.

in fairness, there are quite a few companies doing pre-built vortex boxes that don't have much mark up on them, especially once you add in the building time.

I'd not seen that one linked to before, but I just remembered the case as I was planning to buy one for a self build 🙂

thanks everyone for the replies and help. I do not have a lap top and need something with a app or remote. Ill take a look at the Zen. I would think the upgraded dac my cyrus pre2 is better than whats in the bluesound node 2 and vault anyhow. No sense paying extra for that dac if i dont have to.

there's also quite a few boxes similar to the Zen here - http://www.vortexbox.co.uk/category/%5Bstore%5D

cheaper as well 🙂

I have the VB essential and it works very well, although occasionally it doesn't recognise some of my more esoteric albums as it uses a free database. I stream via a Sqeezebox Touch
but is the sound quality as good as you would get from a cd transport? if I cant get the same quality as my cyrus transport I will pony up and buy another but if i can get something from Zen or bluesound that is just as good I would go that route.

Sound quality will not be any different. Its only music files
The dac will do the calculations whether its reading from a compact disc or a hard drive . Makes no difference at all

Thank you Andrew for the detailed response. This does help Im leaning to the node 2 or vault not sure which. I did find that with bluesound it doesnt play through apple air play via app on your iphone but rather through the router at home which has a ton of speed.

And to reasure you i also have looked into a cd transport to my dac instead of laptop and ive been assured that i have nothing to gain by using the transport.

Greatly appreciated looks like a blue sound

Once your up and running please give us your review

I would say this though..
Why dont you save money and buy a laptop and load jriver or similar software?
Just ignore my last question if youve already mentioned the reasons lol

For this day in age I'm really bad with computers. I could buy a cheap 500 gig laptop for around 100-150 less than the node 2. A laptop details in Canada for $500 and up and the node is $600. And for streaming tidal or alike I still would like a proper streamer
