To put things in context, an SD image can only fill 5% of a 4K screen, so 95% of the picture is made up by the upscaling process. 8K screen has 4 times the number of pixels of 4K, so effectively, an SD image will fill only 1.25% of the 8K screen (so 98.75% of the picture will have to be made up by upscaling).
