Yesterday, I bought a pair of used Wharfedale Jade 5 speakers, where, according to the seller, ‘one tweeter isn’t working.’
When I got home, I noticed that a midrange driver wasn’t working. I took it out and quickly realized it’s not defective.
I then inspected the crossover in both speakers and noticed that in both of them, a resistor seems to have gotten so hot that part of its plastic housing has melted.
Now it’s hard to read what was originally written on the resistors, and I couldn’t find much information online either.
I believe it’s a 5W2R2K resistor.
What’s the best way to proceed here? Replace the resistor? Test everything thoroughly?
I’m confident I can desolder this resistor and solder in a new one.
How high is the chance that other components are also damaged?
Or should I just leave it alone and take it to a professional right away?
