Which colour would you choose?

Correct. My thoughts entirely.

Could likely get away with two matching if they were top and bottom and looked similar, but I decided to go for completely different rather than trying o match. I think it works.

Two speakers too, which are the same brand but don't match either.

You know when you stack grapes, apples, pears and oranges in a bowl, there's a fusion of colours and there's some artistic value both visually and structurally.
Maybe there's a little bit of that, when you group together different boxes with different sizes. It's interesting.
I think having a tall black rack, populated by black boxes will appear uniform but also bland and boring?
Your setup is clearly like a bowl of vibrant fruit 🙂

From the responses to a recent post I got the impression most people on here don't really care about the visual aesthetics of their systems. Some even downright dislike the look of HiFi equipment. I was surprised having read lots of comments in the past about people not buying something because of how it looks, or the colour of it. For me sound comes first, but I don't want an eyesore in my room.

So I thought I would post a poll for fun and see if people really don't care.

If you were starting again with a new system, assuming your chosen components come with colour options, which would you choose?
Black only for me.

In the last couple of months, as I was mulling over a TT upgrade, I was really tempted by a couple of very keenly priced Technics 1200G or even GAE but they were silver so... Nope!

If I had to pick one it would be matte black but more important, don’t mix with silver components. Ideally, for aesthetics, a one brand system, tucked out of sight or integrated into a nice book wall or a non Hifi piece of furniture. Unfortunately mine currently resides in a rack and I intensely dislike it. Showing off Hifi is a bit like wearing heavily branded clothing.
Agree with not matching - though I considered a silver turntable on the top of a thick white shelf with the other components below being black. I don't think it would have looked too bad.

And yes, agree on racks etc - I had a carpenter build me semi-floating shelves on the side of a chimney breast - it was mainly as I could not find one rack that would allow sufficient clearance for the turntable cover from the shelf above , so had to go custom, but really happy I did - it looks great.

I voted black, but as long as it looks expensive, then that's O.K. And big blue lights are splendid. My old casette deck has led vu meters, That's the only reason it's on the rack. I'm sure it will look impressive to my visiters, like my care worker,
Have a drink on me.
IAN (hee hee).

I (also) see Hi-Fi as furniture-extension and I usually buy something that integrates well or what integrates with the hifi (the other way round). I have chosen the 'other' option as it is usually silver-ish or black with woodgrain edges. Combines well with the mix of industrial and colonial style furniture and the plants my wife has around.

If I would have a practical modern Ikea room with white furniture, I would probably search for something that connects, but usually things kind of grow together. For the wife-acceptance factor.. think like an interior designer. : )

What I miss with certain brands is that they don't at least present their products in furniture and more premium home-deco stores. It seems like a better place than a hi-fi dealer to make the big public aware.

My first proper audio system was a Marantz PM7200 with a CD6000 OSE KI in Marantz's rather nice champagne colour, which I really liked.
Over a decade later with those components long gone, I've now got black separates mainly and I think that's probably my preference.

I have gone the other way.
From predominantly black I am now heading down the silver route.
Took me ages to find my current amp in silver though.
