black the new silver?
I simply wont buy any non-black component, unless it is silver.
me neither. and as for them red tellys. well! i mean, everybody knows red electrical items of any sort are more prone to..."noise"...'n' that.

with me it doesn't matter as i like to put large tea cosies over my components, yes yes iknow they may overheat but at least they'll never underperform from being under the weather.

I despise silver equipment, it only works if the gear in question was made in the good old days of yor. 1960-1985... otherwise I like to defer to Wesley Snipes' statement in 1992's Passenger 57

Always bet on black!!

It depend what it is, for me! Krell 400Xi look totally gorgeous in black as so the audionet ART V2. GamuT look more classier in silver and any Musical fidelity would look very 80's in black.

marantz brushed silver the dv7001 looks lush

Remember when all you could do was get it in black - any colour you like, as long as it's black mate! Or that Technics brown....!

One range of kit that looks a bit naff is Arcam gear though; when they brought out the black version of the (then) A65, etc, range, that black fascia with the silver buttons looked like a contrast that went wrong somewhere. Contrast with a different style of button, also in black but with a different finish by all means....

Imagine new Naim in silver!!!

(the old black and silver trim were real nice though)

Most of us here properbly remember Roksan Kandy MK1! You could have ice blue all the way to barbie pink, didn't catch on, Did it?

NAD do look wrong in any colour apart fromonly traditional "the horse poo green" that NAD is so famous for.

Arcam look very sexy in black (rare too!)

I agree with Thaiman...it depends on the product. Although, I tend to like the look of silver products.

Erm, I don't really care to be honest.

My current Denon amp is in champagne gold (whatever the hell that means!). I guess black is more neutral, but if everyone else is buying black and silver is cheaper, I'll happily go silver as long as it does the same thing as the black model!
Im waiting for a silver PS3.
.........silver paint time.........or get a bling bling bodyshop to chrome one up for you 🙂.............

new TV show...pimp my PS3.......

marantz silver finish and build is really nice of the PM6002, look great on the Atacama Black Stand with piano black glass!!

Maybe he should have paid more attention to paying his taxes than gambling! Instead he's now Big Bubba's Bathroom Buddy!!!!!!

Black is best

Silver has so many different finishes that matching components can be tricky. Also black STAYS black. A 10 Year old black amp will still be exactly the same colour and will clean up real nice, not so with silver

Silver can look cheap and tacky after a couple of years

Black I'd say. Although the Marantz set I've just ordered does look better in silver (don't like the gold writing with the black chassis), but silver doesn't match my black telly so I'll suffer the writing! Creek kit looks pretty slick in silver.

I agree, the current Marantz kit looks good in silver but I'd have to buy black for kit-matching purposes. I too hate the gold on black Marantz insignia!
