Hey

I was going to buy a RSW12 after I sold my R370HD, but seen a lot of hoo haa about these BK subs?

Anyone had any experience with them? They seem a bit weird to me as a company, but yet people rave about them.

They take ages to respond to emails, and takes up to a month to make the subwoofer, god knows why they cant just make 10 of each and then make more when stocks are low.

Anyway, any thoughts on the company and the subs.

Nice 1

I have a BK Electrics XLS300PR as part of my stereo set up and have found it to be excellent in performance and build quality, certainly a step up from my previous MJAcoustics Pro 50 and good value for money. As you are posting in this forum I assume you are considering the sub as part of a home cinema set up? I have no experience of these subs in a multi channel set up but have no reason to think they wouldn`t perform well.
My experience of BK as a company was good and I think my sub was delivered in about 2 weeks. They are a fairly small company and I imagine they can`t afford to have stock sitting on shelves for long periods so that is why they build to order.

Having recently repaired an MJ Acoustics Reference 1 MKII I found it to be mainly BK inside and the driver not quite what they described in their brochure. In my opinion it was well overpriced when new, BK therefore seem much better value for the money. I realise that they never made an exact equivalent to the MJ model in question but the amplifier certainly is identical.

I've recently bought a second hand BK Gemini II (entry level) for 200? from a guy in Rotterdam.
He had bought the sub in March 2009 (new: 400?), so he has only used it for a couple of months.
I use it in my 5.1 set-up (apartment: 4x5.5 m).

It is my first sub, I have read the reviews on this site and that's why I bought it.
It sounds good with my B&W DM601's once you have tuned the correct setting, it was difficult in the beginning but now it sounds more complete then when I didn't have a sub.
I use it in combination with a Denon AVR1910 and other B&W's (HTM7 and LM1's).

I don't know much about the company besides the fact that they only make subs.

BK subs are well respected by the audiophile community and offer excellent value for money. I haven't heard them myself, but I was strongly advised to audition them before buying the Monitor Audio. For me, aesthetics was very important & I really liked the Monitor Audio subs (both the RSW12 & the AW12).

The Monolith is way to big for me, its the size of a kitchen table.

Was thinking of the XXLS400

But like you said the MA is probably better looking, and with a full 3 year warranty, you cant go wrong.

I am happy with the R370HD, just want more.

I was also reading and people say that BK make MK and REL speakers, so really BK are REL and MK.

I am confused now as love the quality of the MA subs, but people are saying that if you pay 400 for a BK one its like double the bass and quality of say a MA or B&w ect.. ,

I am lost and would love your guys opinion if anyone has heard the BK subs

That seems to be the opinion on various internet forums, though I've never heard one. It seems that in terms of sonic performance the BKs are very good for the money.

I suppose the trade off is the lack of ability to demo, (though I believe they can be returned if you don't like them), and the looks.

I've got a Monolith and it's probably my best home cinema purchase, been very pleased with it. It's handles music brilliantly and is also great for movies. The rest of their range are supposed to be very good too.

What I find hard to belive is this,

People on another forum, which I wont name, swear by BK they say the quality is amazing, and at 45kg for the monolith

I got to say, it sounds stirdy.

People are saying this is the best product they have ever ever owned, but no one talks about it here?

Another thing I am worried about is, will the BK be too good that my neighbours complain, as mr R370HD is by my sofa right now as it will fit, and is great and my neighbours cant really hear anything.

But if I get one of these BK subs, they are all so big and would have to go on the party wall, which I am not enthused about, and the RSW12 can again go by the sofa so not an issue.

I am really stuck.

Seems like you are answering your own questions!

The Monolith is massive and by all accounts is a great sub. But, there is no point getting it if you are going to get complaints or be worried about using it to it's full potential.

The RSW12 is a great sub too and if this fits your requirements then maybe this is the one for you.

The only thing I would consider is the XLS300. This is more the size of the RSW12 and also has glowing recommendations from others.

Demoing is a real problem.

I have listened to a few subs from Sunfire, MA and REL and I think I liked the RSW12 the best (for the money that is as Sunfire sounded a bit better but was over twice the price). I would like to listen to B&W subs and Velodynes.

I thought MA Radius 370 sounded awful by the way!

My concern about the B&K is that they will be good value for money but no match for a 1000 pound sub.

You guys might be wrong, I think I got a bit sidetracked there.

The RSW12 is the smallest, and most gave it 5 stars, so it must be good. and can get a piano black for 399.95, so pretty good.

Thanks guys once again, for changing my mind,
