Hi everyone,

Looking to buy a big new TV in time for the World Cup come early June. Viewing distance will be around 10 foot so I was looking at 46-50" size models but if anyone recommends smaller I'm open to suggestions. I'm keen on freeview HD as I don't have Sky or Virgin so this built in would be handy, but if I can get a good deal on an older model I'm happy to add an external box later. Obviously it needs to handle motion well as a lot of sport will be watched on it this summer, but I'll also be using it frequently for games and blu-ray via my ps3. The new Panasonic 2010 models caught my eye in John Lewis earlier today especially the S20 model seen here as it comes with a free blu-ray player: http://www.johnlewis.com/230911959/Product.aspx

I really am open to lots of suggestions here, the above Panasonic is really quite stretching my budget once a decent wall bracket is factored in so ideally I'd like one in the sub £1000 category.

Looking forward to your recommendations guys!!

Sub £1000 wont really get you much esp if your looking at over the 42in.

That sounds like an absolute bargain, 5 year warrenty & blu-ray player, you could probably get it cheaper online but without the warrenty or blu-ray player.

yea thats a good deal , perfect tv for sports , however the same money will just about get you an lg50pk9900 , or maybe even a panasonic 50g20 , both have freeview hd , and the pana has freesat , ok no bluray player , but theyre only £100 , you could get one later ...

the s20 is similar in performance to last years g10 , which is good , but add the cost of a freeview hd box and its a close call , id personally try and find the lg or g20 for the same money with the 5 year warranty ...if thats possible..

I'm also in the market for a 50" new plasma, for both the World Cup and my new tv room I'm building. Bought the new amp and speakers [with help from other forum members - Yamaha RX-V2065 & Q-AV 5.1].

However, I'm still really unsure about the TV. I'm also having to furnish an entire new extension, so budget is extremely important. Ideally I'd like to spend up to £1,00, just like the OP. I didn't buy the Samsung PS50B650 yesterday, on offer at Pixmania for £660 and I'm starting to regret it. I've been looking at the TV's Max suggested, however I can't find them in budget.

I'm looking at the Samsung PS50C550 but it does have Cinema Smooth [24fps] but I don't really know what the difference is going to be to a non purist like me - but I'm the sort of bloke who want to have it all, but doesn't really know what half [ok 90%] of it all does!

Anymore suggestions of TV's?

One other thing I'd like to add, is that Ive got Sky+ HD, so I dont have the need for Freeview / Freesat HD - therefore I still want an extremely well spec'd tv but without these additionals. Is this possible?

Would be keen to hear thoughts around this.
Cheers
