Big Boss,

I seem to recall that you posted some pictures of your MA speaker setup some time back. I have just purchased the Monitor Audio R90 HD10 package and keen to see how you have yours set up (i.e. rears mounted high towards ceiling & relationship of fronts to centre in terms of seperation and height).

Thanks for pictures if possible or a link to previous post.

Paul.

There you go! It's now reduced in price. It's powered by electricity.

from the spec is says

Built-in LED light source.
Energy consumption: 6.0W.
LED life time approx. 20.000 hours.
Light colour; warm white (2700 Kelvin).

so 2700 kelvin.. wonder id there's an equivalent with 6500 kelvin..

If you want the recommended colour temp for the cinema, there's another brand (can't remember the name on top of my head) that does it, but is a lot more expensive.

This is adequate for me when watching movies in the dark.

This version has 7 colours; there's another offering only white colour for just £19.99.

Big Boss,

Thanks. Nice furniture by the way, I have the exact same electric recliners in chocolate brown leather (Furniture Village?).

I do have some questions, seeing how some of yours matches my planned environment and some not:

1. The rears I plan to have near ceiling height like yours, although wasn't sure if they should be pointed in and angled down to my primary seating positions or straight ahead (two armchair recliners directly in front of TV at 3.1m viewing distance)? Rears are the R90HD and they will be set at 3.7m separation, and they will face directly forward towards the fronts and TV and about 0.7m behind seating position.

2. I'll be wall mounting my new Panasonic TX-P46GT30B directly in front of seating position and plan to wall mount the centre (R180HD) directly above the TV with the front (2 x R90HD) with 2.7m separation at between 1.5m - 1.7m height. I'd like to go 20cm higher for the fronts, so will this be okay (Monitor Audio recommend that tweeters are at same height or within 60cm). If I angle them down slightly, would this compensate for placing them higher? I note that your fronts are lower than your centre, whereas mine will be the other way round.

3. Height of TV for wall-mounting? I'm guessing yours is placed high due to the fire place? I have read that TV height should be located such that sitting eye-level is approximately two-thirds up the screen. Is this still strictly true as the screen size increases (I am going from 37" to 46")? I ask, as my current TV is on the Panasonic full-width TV stand (so TV height is already decided for me) and my eye level is around three-quarters TV screen height. So, should I maintain this for the 46"? I ask, as the TV is a heavy beast and it would be difficult to somehow hold in different positions to experiment.

4. Finally, what are your views on Audyssey DSX / Dynamic EQ / Dynamic Volume (I have the Onkyo TX-NR609)? I guess worth playing with and deciding what I prefer?

I am going away for a week this coming Sunday, so I will be running speaker wires and mounting TV and all new kit when I return, so any advice much appreciated.

I can't wait, as I am moving from a 37" HD-ready plasma and a Denon S-301 2.1 (includes DVD Player) to what I hope is a much better set up (46" Full-HD plasma, Onkyo 609, Panasonic DMP-BDT110 - BD player free with TV, MA R90 HD10 & Sky+HD ). I am running QED Silver Anniversary XT cable for the fronts/centre and QED Micro cable for the rears.

Yes! :)

Mine face downwards pointing at seating position.

Why do you want to place the fronts higher? The ideal place for the fronts is on either side of the TV in the middle. Even if you angle it from upwards, I'm not sure if it's going to sound right. Place it at that height to check if you're happy with the position before installing it.

3. Height of TV for wall-mounting? I'm guessing yours is placed high due to the fire place? I have read that TV height should be located such that sitting eye-level is approximately two-thirds up the screen. Yes, I was restricted by the fireplace, which my OH wanted to keep. The recliner sofa naturally puts us in natural viewing position without extending the neck. So no neck pains fortunately. You're correct about TV height. More importantly, sit in your recliner sofa (with the recliners up - as you would be tempted to do most of the times) to check you're happy with the position. I know it's a pain to experiment a heavy TV, but you will be rewarded in the long run.

4. Finally, what are your views on Audyssey DSX / Dynamic EQ / Dynamic Volume (I have the Onkyo TX-NR609)? I guess worth playing with and deciding what I prefer?

Yes, it's worth experimenting. I don't know how good Onkyo's is, but trust your ears at the end of the day. These features help you with the right setting, but don't be scared to experiment for that perfect setting for you.

Good luck!

Bigboss,

Thanks for all the replies.

Regarding the front speakers. Due to a 'hole-in-the-wall' fireplace to the left of the TV mounting position, I have two choices:

1. Put the fronts close to either side of the TV, which puts them at a separation of approx 1.2m. I see this as an issue, as Monitor Audio recommend that each front is sited between 22 - 30 degrees from centre, which this option does not achieve with the fronts sited so close to either side of the TV.

2. Due to the 2 main seating positions just off centre directly in front of TV, I was thinking to have the fronts with a separation of 2.7m to give a wider front sound stage; this falls in line with Monitor Audio's recommendation of the fronts at 22 - 30 degrees from centre. Separation aside, due to the fire I need to place them a little higher (I can get away with 1.3m high, which puts them in line with the centre sited above the TV, but having a height of 1.5m would make them more aesthetically pleasing as the left front would then not be so close to the fire).

I think I need to experiment and play around a bit.

Once decided I will post a review of the whole setup and provide pictures (including the recliners!) in a few weeks once I have finalised everything.

Paul.
