Any song that you know very well and is decently recorded. Owning songs that are just well recorded but are musically rubbish is a terrible audiophile disease, I'm still trying to recover

The question is though .. how do you know how it should sound?
I think you can get caught in a trap of finding a track that sounds good on your system / set up, and stop there ... that doesn’t mean that your system / set up is particularly good / accurate etc...
I have pulled my hair out for years on this subject.

I use the combination of these songs to get speakers/amps tested:

Stevie Ray Vaughan - Little Wing (instrumental version: if I get goosebumps we're close)

Depeche Mode - Personal Jesus

D-A-D - Down that dusty third world road

Luois Armstrong - La Vie en Rose

Gorillaz - Dare

Joni Mitchell - A Case Of You (song) / Both Sides Now (song).
Maxwell - This Woman's work (Now album version).
Nick Drake - Bryter Layter (album).
Peter Broderick - How They Are (album).
Tom Waits - Used Songs (1973-1080) - album.
Ruby Turner - I'd Rather Go Blind (Live At Ronnie Scotts album) - harsh recording but a good test.

Bruce Springsteen - Drive All Night (song).
Terry Callier - Alive (album).
David Sylvian - Forbidden colours (song).
Johnny Cash - The first time....(song).
Elvis Costello - Shipbuilding (song).
Bobby Womack - Acoustic Poet (album).
Anne-Sophie Mutter - Beethoven violin concerto (first movement, esp cadenza).

We've started listing these up on our Facebook page this week after requests from some of our 'friends'.

And because we're testing some new loudspeakers............he he.
