Which type of connections provide the best quality image on a television? I realise that in terms of quality it goes composite (worst) - s-video - Scart (best). But what about component and HDMI, what do they offer? Also, is it better to connect the source directly to the television, or through my Onkyo 605? Any replies much appreciated, and sorry if this question has been answered before, had a quick search and didn't find an answer.

Proivided both component and HDMI can deliver the same picture format, then the two are the same in terms of quality. But you will often find some products can deliver, for example, 1080p via HDMI, but only 720p via component.

It's best to connect your source direct to the TV for the optimal picture quality.
