Best headphones for movies?

Hi all,

I'm looking for recommendations for suitable high end headphones that are best for listening to movies. Most of the reviews I have read talk only about stereo music listening, and I am unsure if this translates directly into an equal ability with movie soundtracks?

They don't need to be wireless, and can be open backed if necessary, and are to be used with my LX-83 for late night listening when the rest of the family has gone to bed.

The main two requirements are therefore 1) Sound quality for multi-channel sources 2) Comfort.

Thanks in advance.

Since no one else has replied, I personally think a decent pair of stereo headphones should stand you in good stead for movies as well as music. I don't buy into these surround sound headphones - it's a bit gimmicky and they can't reproduce the same effect as a proper surround sound system.

Hi,

I have a pair of Ultrasone HFI-780's. I needed something that didn't leak sound on the train and annoy anyone. They're quite big (you probably won't get too many girls asking you out!) but they have a tight, comfortable grip and really superb sound. Amazing, actually. More than £130 though, so you have to be keen.....

Hi, I have a pair of Sennheiser HD 650's and i listen to alot of movies and music via headphones and cant fault them - excellent sound reproduction, especially the lower frequencies, and easy on the ears too :))

I use Grado SR 60 for late night music and Tv, I find them fantastic and comfortable.

Yes, I was thinking standard stereo headphones (not the gimmicky surround sound versions as you say), but wondered whether some were better with multichannel soundtracks than others, and whether those that were best with stereo music, would also be best for movies or not?

Yeah, the HD650's are definately on the list, or maybe the HD800's if I can stretch that far (although they might be overkill?), also the Grado RS1i's perhaps (again could be overkill)?
