We didn't buy any equipment because we didn't need anything.
However, while in the UK, we had a good browse in the Oxfam Music Shop in Southampton. We weren't disappointed. We didn't buy LPs or singles because we thought they were a bit too expensive for rather smelly stuff.
The CD section was much better. Incredible low prices and a couple of great CDs from before the Loudness Wars. They have quite a nice classical and jazz section too. Our best buy however was the SACD version of Jamie Cullum's Twentysomething, out of print since 2004. Cost: 33p. Our Sony Bluray player will be happy to play that one for us.
I'm not so sure about these second hand LPs and singles if they cost around GBP 5 each. At least if you buy a second hand CD you know for 99% sure that it will play and rip.
