Sony BDP-S350.

Incidentally, you can read a head-to-head review of the Samsung and Sony on p21 of our new issue, in shops tomorrow.

Obviously now Panasonic's new BD35 £300 Cat has thrown itself in amongst the Samsung BD-P1500 and Sony BDP350 pigeons and bearing in mind that I only have an HD Ready TV and am not worried about surround sound (being more than content to listen in stereo mainly for dialogue reasons) should I still be considering the Sony BDP S350 now at £230 on Amazon from their £195 Pre Order price just a few days ago or given the Samsung is now £165 on Amazon should I in fact opt for that one instead

Don't forget I will on be able to watch either in 720p or 1080i and not at 1080p so would the cheaper of all of the above models in the form of the Samsung be the best buy for me or should I splash out a bit more to get something which can also deliver excellent upscaling for my DVD collection

It may just be me, but I can't really understand how you aren't bothered with surround sound. I mean hi-def video is great on Blu-Ray but I'm truly a believer in Spielberg's statement that a movie is 80% sound and hi-def audio is just mind blowing...
Just my opinion, but I think you're truly missing out on a lot thinking it's just about dialogue.

Professor even though dialogue is my main consideration I still enjoy all the other sounds, albeit through stereo. My main concern for surround sound is a lack of space. I could of course, and I did consider this at the time, buy the Marantz Soundbar ES7001 http://whathifi.co.uk/Review/Marantz-ES7001/ to augment my experience but for the time being I am reasonably happy with my current set up

Besides I don't really want to fork out £800 for the Soundbar though if it ever hit around the £399 mark at some future point I might just be tempted....I will have to monitor price and current stock availability over the next 12 months or so.....let's see...but for now more than happy with the set up

I have a PS3 and can play blu ray discs through this but was just wondering how much better some of the above Blu ray players really were and given I can get my hands on the Samsung BD-P1500 for a ridiculous £165 is this not a steal for what many buyers have already commented on Amazon is a worthy player
