We recently started stocking Pioneer and while I'd always thought DVD offered "good enough" resolution, the reolution and image quality on Blu Rays is spectacular. We've tried many discs so far, but the best have been a mixed bag of new releases (such as Iron Man, Transformers etc) and remastered classics such as Close Encounters. We'd be interested to hear what movies (new or old!) have looked and sounded particularly good on your system?

hi ,for me up to now it as to be hellboy2 really top pic and sound, and the bond films look great too.

Kunf Fu Panda, Wall E, tropic thunder. All look great. Hellboy 2 also, and sound is great.

I agree with most of the previous posts, but check out HOW THE WEST WAS WON.
Because of how it was made (Cinerama, which used 3 x35mm frames), the base resolution is extraordinary.

I haven't got many BD's but for a great sound demo Independence day (opening scene) is a room shacker, also Flight of the Pheonix crash scene.
Picture wise I think I robot is very good and Kill Bill, sound is good on both, I am Legend is good and the Disney or Pixar films are always good to use.
I so need to get more Discs.

2001, Apocalypto, Blade Runner, Casino Royale, The Dark Knight, Pan's Labyrinth, Sleeping Beauty, There Will Be Blood, The Thing, The Matrix Trilogy, Wall-E... (the list goes on!)

Hi,

This siteÿhttp://www.hddb.net/ÿprovides a good set of reviews for blu ray discs, generally covering the three aspects of the movie (as a movie), the quality of the video transfer and the quality of the audio available.

Other than there is always the universal answer www.imdb.com !ÿ

To summarize:ÿ

The video is stunning - '"Speed Racer" is perhaps one of the most visually-stunning movies that I've ever seen and suffice it to say that it's a veritable orgasm for the eyes.' which should be interesting.

The audio apparently is only Dolby Digital, so no HD which will be a bit of a problem if you are expecting it.

The movie itself gets good ratings from the people who seemed to want to watch it (if you see what I mean).

Die Hard 4.0 for sound quality

Apocalypto for picture quality

And many others, but off the top-of-my-head, these are it.

Is there any specific disc that people recommend to appreciate HD sound and preferrably one that makes good use of surround speakers?

The Dark Knight is an interesting one, as it has certainly divided opinion on here! ÿMy personal opinion is that the dynamic range is probably wider than any other Blu-ray disk. ÿAs a result, if you set the volume at a 'normal' level for dialogue, you'd better be prepared to lift the roof off when the action kicks in! ÿ That's fine as far as I'm concerned, but it obviously isn't everyone's cup of tea.

The opening titles of Superman Returns.

Just watched The Midnight Meat Train picture quality was a bit grainy in the dark scenes but the

DTS HD 7.1 surround was pretty good, As for the storyline it started ok but lost it towards the end.

I purchased Dark City yesterday and was very impressed with the picture quality and the DTS HD soundtrack. The finale has simply got to be seen and heard to be believed. The picture is awesome and the sound is breathtaking! Every speaker is filled with sound and there is a constant rumble from the subwoofer. Definately a demo disc to test any system!

Watched Death Race Last Night On Blu_ray, one of the best sounding bluray discs ive heard to date in Dts,also good picture transfer - i would reccomend this disc to any one who wants to show there system off as i had the walls shaking last night,i do hope i didnt upset my neighbour, the film did finish arouind 9.30 pm so not too late

professorhat:

Cloverfield and Master and Commander are two which instantly come to mind specifically for sound. Also The Dark Knight.

I haven't seen Master and Commander, but I agree that Cloverfield sounds (and looks) great.

VoodooDoctor:

The opening titles of Superman Returns.

Yes, Krypton exploding almost blew me out of my chair!
