Spending that sort of money I would recommend going for seperates.

Putting all your eggs in one basket has the disadvantage of:

- if one component is faulty then you lose the whole system.
- if you want to upgrade then you have to upgrade everything.
- with technology moving so quickly you may regret it(eg Panasonic already advertising recordable Blu ray).

If the LX01BD is current, what difference does the age of the review make? It will have been reviewed at or near launch. I'm not that clued up on all-in-ones and agree, if £2k is your budget, you could get a far better setup for the money with separates. I can see the appeal of all-in-ones, although not with the LX01BD as I don't think it is very nice looking at all which is usually the main draw of an all-in-one. They always look better than they sound.

I would recommend visiting some dealers to listen to a comparison between a high end AIO setup and separates to appreciate the differences.

if you have £2k to play with, i'd get a separates system...

It may be daunting to look at if you don't know too much but there are plenty of companies out there that will advise you on products that form a better synergy together than others... for £2000 you could get yourself a very very enjoyable home cinema.

If you really want an all in one system, then get the NAD Viso Five + B&W MT-25 + QED Silver Aniversary XT Cables = £2000 (approximately).

At your budget, you really should be considering gown down the separates route rather than an all-in-one solution. There will be a significant difference in the quality of sound and picture, in my opinion.

What if he really only has the space for an all in one system?
