Not expecting too many replies but feel the need to vent. It was one thing putting Being Human on BBC HD an hour or so after it started on BBC3 but who at the BBC actually thought it was a good idea to show episode 2 of Ashes to Ashes on BBC HD on Monday night when it is on BBC one tonight rather than sacrifice one hour of HD golf. It is supposed to be a flagship programme. You do wonder sometimes how seriously the BBC takes its HD output.

Pah!

That's why it's great news re there being a second BBC HD channel on the way, from as early as July. Will allow both scheduled and special HD programmes to run at same time....

And as well as the better picture, the improved sound quality would presumably have made it easier to hear Nelson's voice just as Shaz had her LoM moment...

I'll get me anorak...

Diamond Joe:Andy Clough:Give me Gene Hunt over golf any day.
Couldn't agree more Andy.

Bit overly dramatic isn't it? The BBC only shows golf twice a year, the Masters and the Open, that's 8 days, so it's not like Gene-Genie's getting bumped every week is it?

Beside how is this anything new? How often does Top Gear not get shown at all because the Beeb are putting snooker on? The BBC have been doing this for decades, would have thought you'd be used to it by now.

Anyway, there's two Brits at the top of the leaderboard at the halfway stage, we should be cheering, what could possibly go wrong now?

I don't actually hate the golf particularly and am not one of these people who complain about there being too much sport on free to air TV. However, this is a flagship drama, a television "event" endlessly trailed on BBC channels, is shown on BBC One at primetime (unlike Top Gear on BBC 2) and which involves a plot (unlike Top Gear; unless I have missed a plot of Lynchian proportions over the years). They did show it on BBC 1, just not on BBC HD, so I will no doubt read about what happened all over the internet etc. This was more the basis of my complaint when they could have easily switched one hour of the multiple hours of golf to a standard definition channel instead.

Also, my NAD C270 gave up the ghost that afternoon and that put me in a bad mood generally and my 18 month old just couldn't seem to understand my ire no matter how many times I explained it to her (she was alseep at the time) and probably wouldn't have got it anyway.

I will admit, I was surprised it wasn't being shown on HD until Monday and whilst I like golf, I must admit to a moment's irritation I couldn't watch it in HD but then you have to realise this is a) one of the few events the BBC still cover and b) the first time they've shown it in HD, so they're going to push it. Until the Beeb start a second channel this is going to happen (although I hope they don't start simulcasting to be honest).

Did you know the Masters is actually being filmed in 3D this year?
