Bad Service at JL - surely not????

Unbelieveable but true.

Recently price matched two new Panny models from Sound and Vision with JL. Got the letter back from JL saying that they would price match (even though the figure they quoted on both sets was higher than what I had been quoted by S&V) Rang them to pay for both sets, they took my details and said that they would call back with a delivery date. The day after I received a call saying that they are unable to deliver the sets as they do not offer delivery when price matching (even though S&V do include delivery) - eventually they said that they couldnt offer delivery as they no longer run two man deliveries which they would need with one of the screens being 42 inch

I questioned them about the position but they would not budge and have said that there is no physical way that they can deliver to me - I live in Hull which is only around 40 miles away from the store.

All in all - pretty bad effort from JL. Have now ordered both sets from Sound and Vision - I appreciate that I may be treading new ground in criticising JL but has anyone else had a similar problem?

I didn't have any issues and found them really helpful. But different stores have different price matching teams and customer service employees.... Bluewater is highly recommended by me!

As I said, I know that there is barely anyone that has an issue with JL - makes me wonder even more why I am having such an issue with them???

I've had 'on and off' service from JL. I remember buying a new digital camera and Walkman at the same time and they just couldn't do enough for me, but then went in a few days later to look for memory sticks and the staff acted like they were doing me a favour! Mmm can't imagine the method behind his madness

I seem to have the same problem as Yarn with the Solihull branch. Overquote the price match then ask for £60 squid extra for delivery.

I guess it all depends with who you deal with aswell as which branch. At Solihull the first person I spoke to said they could only offer the £679.99 price with Empire Direct for the 37PX80, however I then got another assaistant to refund me £75 after I bought it pricematching with S&V.

Seems to me as though they make it up as they go along in that there doesnt seem to be a definitive offer that they stick too

The other thing that has annoyed me is that they havent replied to the email I sent questioning the runaround that I have had - again, not sure what I have done to upset them???

I too have had mixed experiences with JL Solihull. First the positive, got a price match with S&V on the 42PZ85. Set was delivered by one man as I recall and delivery was free. Had the set replaced twice due to faults and I must say JL handled it very well. Also got a further price match (allowable up to 28 days after purchase) and got another £41 off bringing it down to £989.

Now the bad - requested a further price match at £974 with S & V. This got refused as they stated £999 at S&V. S&V haven't sold this set at that price for some time. Depending on who you speak to the 'rules' are applied differently. Some make you wait well over a week for a Price Match response, others will sort it within a day. Some people are helpful and want your trade, others seem to concentrate their efforts on putting you off.

It seems to me that when JL are good, they are very good. When they are bad, they can be very disappointing. They claim that their representatives must visit the stores and check out the products. Fair enough but only certain individuals will request a visit, others very lazily, just quote the results of some previous visit.

I am currently waiting for jl solihull to investigate pricing, was told it would be 10 days. Not that helpful and considering we know that they have matched loads of times its not that encouraging....

Thanks Cooney and sleepalot, It's not just me then... I have tried to price match again today with the 42PZ85, S&V £963.88 (shop floor price) lets see what they come back with and how long. Nice lady I spoke too explained exacty the same protocol for price matching but quoted "only a few days".
I have found out it is a 30 mile radius for Free delivery so I'm bang out of luck with that. Solihull to Cannock quoted £65 delivery cost. Anyone else price matching a 42PZ85 with JL let us know the cheapest quote please.

I bought my TH37PX80 on a PM from the Milton Keynes store. They PM against S & V at £635 but added £30 delivery charge which is what they said was the price that S & V would charge for delivery when purchased direct from the store.

Then when the S & V price dropped to £600 I rang the same JL store up and told them the price had changed, after I bought the set, and was given £65 back, no delivery charge mentioned!

Had it delivered to me by a 2 man team for free.

Strange that you have had a bad experience as this is the first I have heard of complaints against JL.

Seems to have all gone full circle again - JL have rang me and confirmed that they are able to price match, would normally have to charge £65 as Hull is not an area that they will deliver too (its really not that bad a place!) but in this instance they are going to waive the charge

Gone for the 42PX80 - was tempted with the pioneer but figured the difference in price gets me the PS3 - everyone on here seems to give the panny a good review

I rang them after a couple of days and even though I didnt have the letter, they did have the details of the price match (this was before the off,on, off and back on delivery issue)

Received my price match back from John Lewis Solihull, £993.00. Now how do they work that one out? Price on the day of asking was £963.88 from S&V! then £65 squid for delivery. Anyone got the Price Match Cheaper for the panny 42pz85b please?
By the way yarn there is always a first time...new Wembley new FC, maybe KR's time to turn on the stye tonight against the Saints.

Not the exact tv but i got a 42pz80b with 5year warrenty for £815 from richer sounds, I dont think the extra sound quallity is worth £150??? and the 5years is nice. It was pricematched -£10 from digitech electronics who are quoting £824.66..

no delivery but most people arnt to far from a shop...

BF1 -Can you tell me how this worked with Sound and Vision and JL(mine is also MK) -their current price is £562 but not with the extended warranty which Panasonic are offering only if you pick up from the store(in Bolton.)

Did you say you would collect from Bolton or did SV say they will despatch to you with the 5 yr warranty.

I'm after the same TV and trying to get a PM from JL at the moment. Could you tell me how you managed to get RS to pricematch that low with warranty, as Digitech quote £870 in-store price in order to get the free 5 year manufacturer warranty?

S&V said to me that you had to be in the store at the point of purchase in order to get the 5 year Panasonic warranty but they would still deliver it free of charge to my home.

Hi, I have had the same problem but managed to resolve it. JL state that the S&V prices on the web do not match the ticket price on display. JL (Cheadle) call in to S&V and compile a list of prices approx. once a week. My price match was £950 and they kept quoting £993. I explained that I could walk into S&V and get the set for £950 regardless of what the latest list stated.

Luckily I was speaking to a helpful woman at JL (service is very variable depending on who answers the phone!). I asked 'where we could go from this impasse' and she stated that she had no authority to match but would speak to her manager. 10 minutes later I had a call back from her requesting my card details to process the refund (I had the set for almost 28 days and this was my third price match - £1030, then £989 then £950).

Be persistent!!

....sorry.... should have added, JL's initial response was that electronic prices continually fluctuate in both directions. I pointed out that I had been checking out the S&V price on this for more than a month and the only adjustment had been downward.

Just checked S&V - price of PZ85 is £949.95.
