I've always understood, and followed, the sequence for setting up, and adjusting, brightness and contrast levels to give a good LCD picture but how should backlight adjustment be approached eg do you set it roughly mid-scale before starting on the other two parameters or should it be gradually increased from zero once the brightness/contrast ratio has been established? I would welcome any views.

What an intelligent question . How very typical that you haven't had much response ; perhaps you should have asked something controversial instead .

Anyway , I have puzzled over the same conundrum and experimented with two approaches ;

1 . Backlight at halfway , contrast and brightness as per set up disc ( THX and DVE ) which resulted in levels at about halfway .

2 . Backlight at minimum , contrast and brightness ( again as per set up discs ) were 80 % and 50% .

By assigning these seperate set ups to different categories on the TV 's menu - in my case Standard and Cinema - I can flick back and forth whilst a film is playing . Try it for yourself . Would not try it whilst watching SD Freeview because it looks rubbish anyway .

Have fun .
