Hi,

I currently have a pair of B&W 603 S2 floor standers and a CC6 S2 centre speaker which are being driven by an Onkyo DS787 amp.

The wife is unhappy with the size of these speakers so I'm considering the B&W MT-30 style speakers to replace them and also gain surround sound.

The room is 22ft x 12 ft in size.

I'm pretty pleased with the sound that I get from my current system. Can anyone offer any insight in to whether the sound produced by the MT-30s would be anywhere near as good as the 603s in a room of this size ?

Any comments much appreciated.

thanks

I used to have the B&W MT30 speaker package and I think you are going to miss the front left and right speaker's. Having those extra's speaker's in there really do make a difference, that being said the B&W M1's are very good, excellent quality and very clean.

Can you not get away with just adding a couple of M1s for rears, thats what I do with 684s as the fronts. I recently demod with a friend who was looking for the 685 HT or MT30. The M1's were good but when we changed to the 685s it was night and day. The 685s completely blew them out the water. So much more scale and authority. That was only with movies. when we switched to music the differences were even more apparent. Using the smaller sat rears won't have that great an impact as they are only effects channels.

I agree with the music comment too, is there a budget you are looking at for this?

Thanks

Thanks for your comments.

Tonestar, I was fearing the outcome that you described.

The principal issue that I have is the physical size of the 603 floorstanders. I am considering the MT30 package primarily because it includes the PV1 subwoofer which is very well reviewed.

I have never owned a subwoofer before and I guess I was hoping that it would go some way to replacing the sonic "presence" that I would lose from replacing the 603s.

The system will be used primarily for TV/films, but we do sometimes listen to music at moderate levels (Music is mainly FLAC format from a media streamer).

In terms of budget, I have some flexibility and could probably look at up to £2500 for the right speakers. But they do need to be "style" type speakers that are very unobtrusive. I'm not able to consider anything that involves burying them in the walls or ceiling.

I think I may need to audition the MT30s in situ. Do you know whether hi-fi retailers will allow this, e.g. on a sale or return basis ?

Failing that, any recommendations for alternatives in the "style" format ?

Thanks again.

Well the M&K speaker packages I would say are small and sylish, they have a range of speaker packages at various pricing.

Something just above your budget is the M&K 750thx package, sale's are on at the momet know.
