Back to the OP.

It's like this.... You want a piano in your house. You know a grand piano is the best you can buy, but you live in a 2 up, 2 down, so that rules out the grand piano. Next best is an upright tucked into a corner somewhere.

Speaker packages are the same. Yes, big burly boxes will sound better, but the style system was created because many people (or their Wives) just can't justify or accomodate 5 or 7 big, brutish boxes in their home.

Comparing the 2 isn't really helping. Ask yourself one question. Can I happily get larger speakers into my home? If so, I wouldn't be looking at style speakers.

And this is from someone who is 110% happy with their MT-30s and probably wouldn't get the 685 HT even if I had the space and an approving Wife.

I have B&W 685s on fronts and rears and also use Atacama Nexus 6 stands which i think do a great job. I know its all down to personal opionion but i was not to impressed with the ASW610 sub, i didnt think it was a good as my old sub although to be fair my old sub was much bigger. In my opinion if its in the budget go for a better sub.

Why would you need speaker stands for your centre channel? This should be placed in your AV Rack.

Nope, as EvilWolf says, centre is on my AV rack. At the moment I just have a cheapie Techlink rack I got off ebay as had to rearrange everything quickly when I get the new Pioneer TV last month. Will be looking to replace this at some point, possibly with a bespoke wooden one from hifiracks.co.uk which I quite like the look of.

Thanks for that, and congratulations on your new tv, what size is it?

See when I brought my current speaker's I had to buy a new stand because my centre speaker was too big for my old alphason stand.

I am wondering how much space you need for that centre on a av stand?

Thanks

It's the PDP-LX5090 - got one before they disappeared forever!

Specs on the website as indicated, but these are the HTM62 centre dimensions:

Height: 170mm (6.7 in)
Width: 438mm (17.3 in)
Depth: 308mm (12.2 in) including grille and terminals

I also have the Atacama rack (with an extra shelf) : TV on top, centre and Wii on middle, Sky box and amp on bottom. The rest of my kit is on my old hi-fi rack.

Mine came from Audio Affair - great service - who still under-cut the Superfi price.

Anyone know which one is better for sound?

Thanks

Has anyone done a side by side comparison on both these packages? I've heard them separately but would like to know 'exactly which sounds better'. Not the size, not the style but the 'sound' .

Hi, the people with the B&W 685 speaker package have you ever thought or considered adding these to your front left and right speakers?

http://www.bowers-wilkins.com/display.aspx?infid=2354&sc=ht

Is it possible to do?

Do you ever feel the need?

What do you think?

I know in the B&W MT30 speaker package you do feel like you are missing something at the front.

Thanks
