Is there much difference in network streamers if internal DAC is bypassed?

It even includes option for types of wall structure, and for anyone curious to explore further, this is a good place to begin. https://docs.linn.co.uk/wiki/index.php/Space_Optimisation_and_Space_Optimisation+

I don’t use it currently with my Sonus fabers, as the modest room gain I get from being about 900mm from the front wall and corners balances the sound well, without boominess, to my ears. However, when I had Revel M16 Concerta2, to see if they were as amazing as in one particular demo (they weren’t!), the artificial bass bump they engineer in was happily cured by the Linn SO. Obviously the Revels work in some rooms, but they didn’t for me. (I tend to prefer the natural roll off from sealed cabinets, a la ATC Entry series, rather than the peak and crash of many ported designs.)

I should give that page a read, so thanks for sharing Nick 😊

Re speakers: it’s incredible how subtle changes to a wooden box & a carbon fibre diaphragm driven by a magnet can make huge differences in presentation, tone & impact.

Also, you know you deserve some SC40a…

I do like the ATCs. A couple of points re. room eq and auto correction. Whilst it will improve the sound of badly placed speakers or poor acoustic space, it won't make them sound as good as a well set up pair of speakers well placed in an acoustically good room.
Experiment with placement and get the best you can before using correction (DIRAC for instance) and then use it to knock off the rough edges that are left.
It is useful for correction when aesthetics and those you live with dictate where you can place those lovely speakers you just bought though!

Some people like to separate streaming transports or renderers (as Linn like to refer to them) from the DAC and many are emphatic that a quality transport can have a positive effect on overall SQ.

I was considering a Volumio Rivo + DAC + preamp to replace my Linn Akurate until a nearly new Linn Selekt popped up at a good price. I’m now still with a one box machine but if I was starting from scratch and didn’t mind multiple boxes, I’d probably split transport, DAC, and preamp ……. or not ….
