Anyone know which one is better for sound?

Thanks

Probably a combination of the 685 Loud speakers & the PV1 sub would sound the best.

Just a guess though!!!

Personally, doing it again - I'd go for the 685s, the HMT62 centre, M1s for the rears and then a ASW610 or PV1 sub, depending on how flush you're feeling!

The 685 package in my opinion (though agree, adding the PV1 sub to the 685 package would more than likely improve things, personally I opted for the ASW610 - couldn't justify the extra money for the PV1 on my system).

Thanks for the post's.

So the B&W 685's with the B&W PV1 how much would that likely be ? Thanks

I have just read in this month's issue they combine well with the pioneer amp's and I konw the PV1 does as well, so that's good.

thanks

If you don't mind me saying Evilwolf your amp look's a bit too expensive for that speaker package?

Does it make full use of the amp?

Thanks

685 fronts - roughly £370

HTM62 centre - roughly £250

686 rears - roughly £270

PV1 sub - roughly £950

Total = roughly £1,840

I'm not convinced by the need for the PV1 though when you look at that - it's a great sub but it basically costs half of the total package! It makes sense in the MT30 package where the smaller M1s are not going to be producing a lot of bass, but the 685s and 686s won't need that extra oomph. The ASW610 at about £450 is a great sub and makes more sense if you ask me. Or even the ASW610XP as a compromise!

hey GEL. I have to agree with everyone else and say get the 685's with the asw10 sub or pv1. depending how much money u want to spend. I opted in upgraded the rear speakers from the 686's to 685's and got the asw10 sub. Really nice and these speakers i have to say produce nice bass themselve but the sub deffinatley makes the differences in the lower frequencys. Overall its down to how much you want to spend. Ohh one thing though.....you probably going to need to buy stands for the 685's though wouldnt really want to hang a 8kg speaker off the wall :S lol

The 685 Theatre package is excellent for the money and suits me just fine (until I get that upgrade bug again!). I've replaced the sub with 2 ASW610's and they rock!

Thanks Professorhat, the ASW610 sub makes sense to me as well.

im not sure about the 685 package

but the pv1 sub is an excellent bit of kit

and for rears the ds3 are a nice rear effect speaker

I did not realise these were so heavy. These are for my uncle and they were going to go on a shelf he has around the edge of his lounge, I can't describe it well because I have not seen it.

That sound's pretty heavy know.

Thanks

In what hi fi this month they matched them with a pioneer amp costing around £500, I think my uncle likes the idea of pioneer using one remote for the amp and blu ray player, he was also looking to pay around £2500.

So I am not sure amp wise, whether the pioneer vsx-lx52 would be about right for my uncle?

Thanks

gel, you could wall hang the 685's using something like the b-tech AV38, these are made for medium to large speakers weighing upto 15kg.

They only hold the speaker 95mm off the wall though, so if they are rear ported you may need to use the bungs, if you get some boom of them.

They come in silver, black or white and cost £22 a pair, I intend using some with my RX1's, which weigh the same, but are slightly smaller

That's very interesting because wall mounting is an option thank's for that.

What sort of stand's do you all have because from the size of these speakers, they look like they might not fit on an average for example alphason stand.

Thanks

i use the z2i's on them which seem to do the trick and cost about £70 a pair which i still think isnt bad.

I used to have the B&W MT30 and know they had their limitations, Evilwolf said needs rock, so I am guessing these speaker's can go pretty loud?

Thanks

loud? lets just say i use them with my denon 2310 and the loudest ive ever put them upto is +5db on pure and that was for about 5 seconds as i feared that my neigbors would come and complain and i believe the denon 2310 can go to +25/30. Soo yes very very loud and crisps at the same time! Plus the speakers look mental when you start to drive them 🙂

Thanks for that,

What do you mean by the look of the them while playing?

Thanks

when the actual speaker its self is moving due to how loud the music is. just like when the sub moves on a big explosion scene

Thank's for that, can these speaker's have cover's on the front i think the word might be grill's not sure.

Thanks

yes the come with the speakers but i prefer to have them off as i like how the yellow stands out 🙂

Thanks

what kind of stand are you guy's using for the B&W 685? Because they look quite big for example an average alphason stand?

Thanks
