Thinking about changing my current AV receiver (denon 2310) to something more substantial as I have recently purchased a 7.1 apex setup. However it does sound good but i'm left thinking can these speakers sound even better when partnered with a higher end amp would it ? I'm currently considering the pioneer sc-lx83/yamaha 3067/marantz 7005 any other suggestions?

cheers

I've noticed that WHF seems to recommend systems that seem to reflect that the amp price is around 40% of the speaker set up.

Have a lok through the various mags and see, or search back on the web site

I have an RXV 2700 (£1200.00 in it's day) and have just upgraded speakers (except sub) and overall that rule of thumb would seem to fit....................so if your aspiring to £1,000 ish for an amp you should be looking at speaker set ups around the £2500+ mark to do the amp justice.

You seem happy withe your current amp, are you able to get home demo on any of your options to see if it really is worth the outlay?

Currently, my thinking for my set up is that the Amp will probably the last to be upgraded, maybe the sub next as that is now 12 years old

Hi stokes2608

All impressive AV receivers and all three would provide improvements over the AVR2310 in areas such as connectivity, processing, quality of power, performance etc. From this list i would opt for the Yamaha's RX-V3067 as tonally the RX-V3067 and Apex speakers form an excellent match. The RX-V3067 and Apex speakers together reproduce (amongst their other qualities) a sound which is highly detailed, rich with timbre, potent, dynamic, fast (without being upfront) and has an overall 'feel' which can be listened to for hours without fatigue.

Btw, Denon's AVR4311 is also worth a look.

All the best

+1 for the Yamaha RX-V3067 ( OP your signature indicates a 8.1 setup, 7xA10 & 1xA40, sorry to be annoying) great choice in speakers BTW.

The Denon 2310 is a very good receiver.

I use a 3310 with my Apex and although it is great I feel that I will get more from the Apex with an upgrade in receiver.

I am considering the Anthem MRX700, top of the list mainly due to its amplifier quality and room correction, Arcam AVR400 again for great sounding amp and I also have started to think about a Denon 4311 as its reviews have been v good.

I will be saving till xmas but can live happily in the meantime with the 3310, but I would def say go for it

I recently purchased the Anthem MRX 700, (to replace my Yamaha RX-V3800 paired with a Naim 3-channel power amp). To say I'm impressed is an understatement. The sound quality is in an entirely (spectacular, musical) different league to my previous equipment, and I wouldn't have believed a £2,000 receiver could sound that good. I'm an Anthem convert!

Dont rush, im going to demo these tomorrow. I will report back on my findings. The Pioneer out your list wipes the floor with the rest ;)

Tomorrow I will be testing the Yahmaha mentioned above, Pioneer LX83, AVR400, AVR500 with the CM8 Package.....Watch this space :)

hunny,

I plan to use the Anthem for a lot of music,(multichannel). I havent had a demo yet as very few stores stock it but I hear it is incredible with music.

How have you found ARC? Again I hear it is much more powerfull than anything Audyssey have. I am a strong believer in room correction.

This is why I feel I wont go for the Arcam 400 as it wont have the room correction that can make such a diference IMHO.

Any views would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry for jumping in on this thread

ric71,

I am finding the Anthem hugely impressive with music. It really sounds like serious hi-fi instead of what one has traditionally come to expect from an AV receiver.

The dealer set up the ARC, (via his laptop plugged into the Anthem). It does work extraordinarily well. I am hearing details from music and films I had never heard before, plus a great "soundstage". I simply never expected to be this impressed - I'm blown away by the general quality of the sound and a lovely musicality.

Hi hunnyy,

Thanks for the reply

Just as I thought, judging by all the reviews I have read from Canada and the States.

I have been told by several dealers that this is a serious bit of kit if sound quality is a priority for music and also that the ARC room correction is a very powerful tool, making a massive difference.

You have a great system there hunnyy, enjoy and thanks
