I'm thinking Yamaha. Is the A2010 good enough for my speakers or would I notice a jump in class with the 3010? I don't need AirPlay, network capabilities or much flashiness. My main concern is sound for films and up scaling, hdmi duties. So, I'm thinking about getting a bargain last year amp instead of waiting and getting the A1020 or A2020 models.

Any thoughts would be welcome as I doubt auditioning will be doable.

I haven't heard Vienna Acoustics speakers so cannot comment if the 3010 will be an improvement over 2010. It certainly makes sense to snap up either the 2010 or 3010 at bargain prices instead of buying the 2020/3020, especially when you're not interested in the extra features.

Thanks Big Boss. The VA speakers are wonderful and I know my Sony receiver has been the weak link in my system for a while. The colour of the unit is not that important to me as it will be in a cabinet with glass. The price difference is £100 and as they are both massive it's really whether the 2010 can drive my speakers well or if I need to get the 3010.

Yamaha 2010 will definitely drive the speakers better than the Sony you currently have. A price difference of only £100 between the 2010 & the 3010 will tempt me towards the latter, a small price to pay for the regret of "I wish I had gone for the 3010".

Demo both & see if if you can appreciate the difference, & that you'e happy with the sound.
