Dear bigboss, what is you oppinion about the SR7005 in comparison with the Yamaha RX-V2067 or Denon AVR-3311

I've auditioned Marantz SR6004 receiver which I thought sounded very good with music, but it didn't have that 'oomph' when it came to movies, especially action scenes.

I haven't heard the 7005 & so I can't comment on it.

gosalh, and you are not finding it bright or harsh in the treble ? What cables are you using ?

BigBoss, having heard the Denon 2311, and since you have the RX-V1900 , which was another model I was thinking of buying, would you say, to drive the Apex, that they have a similar sound, in terms of warm and tonal balance ?

Because, I was thinking of selling my Denon and getting a Yamaha, but would you say there wont be much benefits ?

You will have to demo & compare the receivers yourself to decide if you can perceive the benefits. The RX-V1900 is more in the league of Denon 3311 (disregarding the fact that they're from different generations). Both Yamaha & Denon have a beautifully warm sound. The reason I went for Yamaha was, at the time, Denon had increased its prices due to the weakening pound against the dollar.

There will be an improved sonic performance by upgrading your receiver to Denon 3311, Yamaha RX-V2067, Yamaha RX-V3067 or Denon 4311. Demo the receivers based on your budget & decide if the improvement in performance is worth the outlay.

Markjaspi, how do you compare the sound of the RX line ( RX1 or RX2) with the Apex.

I dont care about the looks and since they cost about the same, I can choose one or the other.

The use will be 90% movies. What do I gain and what do I lose in each model ?

That's a real difficult one, I loved my RX setup, but my wife did not like the aesthetics of the RX1s wall mounted. I liked the mid range of the RX system, RX1, RXC & RXFX, and the rears created an excellent rear sound stage and that's what I miss the most. They seemed warmer and a little softer if that makes sense.

I certainly think the Apex are much more detailed and precise, especially on movie sound tracks. The RX range where more musical, but not by much. The aesthetics are certainly better on the Apex. I also believe the Apex reveal a little bit more, I'm sure I hear things in sound tracks of films I know well, that I have not heard before.

It's a really close call, but as I don't listen to a lot of music, for me the Apex edge it, but remember I only had the RX1s upfront not the 2s or 6s so that may have made a difference.

Hope this helps.

Well, you just made me more confused.....LOL

I like warm and soft, especially in the treble.

I will never make up my mind. It's a shame I cant audition.

Sorry about that, it will depend on which AVR you go for of course.

I would say that the RX range mixed with a pioneer (something like the LX73) or the Apex with Yamaha RXV3067 for your taste.

I'm demoing the LX 73 with the Apex over the weekend, I will Let you know what I think.

I've just re-read the thread and remembered all the previous post, I would certainly suggest the RXV1067 over the 2311 if you went the Apex route. I've not heard the Denon with either, so can't advise on that one Mate.
