After being just ready to buy either a Onkyo 875 or 905 my local hi fi shop has got 1 ex demo Denon 4308 amp very very cheap at £950 is this worth the extra £150 over the Onkyo 905 or should i ignore the Denon? i saw it was awarded 4 stars but that was at £2000! The Denon sounds great but thats in comparison with my old 2803 and they dont stock onkyo to compare the two!

When we tested the Denon AVR-4308, one of the reasons it got four stars was that we didn't think it added much (if anything) sonically over the Onkyo 905: there seemed to be a lot of premium paid for the networking features etc. (Not to knock them - it's an incredibly talented AV amp).

If you've got room to house the Onkyo with good ventilation, i'd go for it - it's an awesome HD receiver with both power and poise to its sound, plus exceptional video processing capabilities.

You could then use that extra £150 on better-quality Blu-ray player, cables etc, which would add even further to your home cinema experience.
