beaverme:Plenty of people use the termsÿinterchangeably.

...And thus run into problems such as that experienced by the original poster. Surround speakers are the 'rear' speakers in a 5.1-channel system; surround back speakers are the extras making up a 6.1- or 7.1-channelÿ system.

I just think that correcting the OP's vocabulary doesn't help solve his / her problem.ÿ

sorry bud i had to hit the sack,

your ps3 will output audio in HD via PCM, through an HDMI cable.

your 806 display will read multichannel as the ps3 decodes the sound prior to sending it to the amp.

so you need to connect the ps3 to amp via HDMI then HDMI to your screen,

don't forget in the video settings on the ps3 set the audio output for HDMI to PCM.

you will now have full HD sound running through your Onkyo, if you press the display button on the amps remote whilst in receiver mode you will see what format of audio is being received by the amp (5.1,7.1 etc)

hope this helps

Pete.

No, set as it is now - that's exactly what it should be saying...

'Multichannel' accesses the multichannel analogue inputs on the back, which you're not using.

Yes, the settings you have now, and the display you are seeing now, are correct.

You don't need to select the multichannel input, as that connects to the eight-channel analogue input sockets on the rear of the receiver, which you would use were you to be using a DVD player with onboard decoding and multichannel analogue outputs.

That's another way of getting HD from a DVD player (but not the PS3) to a receiver, but you don't need to bother with it as the Linear PCM output is doing the job just fine for you.

ah gotcha,ty for that!!

im still considering buying a seperate blu-ray player! interested in the panasonic DMPBD35,as long as it plays divx, upscales normal dvd to 1080p,gives better picture and sound then the PS3 and also plays audio cd's well or better then my CAMBRIDGE AUDIO DVD89?

or should i stick with what i got?

I'd stick with what you have and see what happens over the next few months.

We should have new players from some of the big Japanese names, along with the likes of the Cambridge Audio Blu-ray Disc machine, the Oppo universal player and a few more...
